I am clearly not an anki expert. I am missing media and have been disregarding it, but some cards require the picture. Any thoughts? I did a quick google search and try some things but no luck.
I’ll help you with the missing media issue in your AnkiHub deck. Let me search for some relevant information on the community forum first.

Hi Emaria,
I see you’re having issues with missing media in your Anki deck. This is a common problem that can be solved with a few troubleshooting steps!
How to Fix Missing Media in Your Deck
If you’re seeing missing media icons or your cards require pictures that aren’t displaying, here’s what you can do:
If you’re using an AnkiHub deck:
-
Check if media download is complete
- Open the AnkiHub add-on
- Check if the media sync status says “Idle” (complete) or “Downloading” (still in progress)
- Media can take up to 60 minutes to fully sync depending on your internet connection
-
Reset local changes (if using AnkiHub)
- Go to Browse in Anki
- Click on the AnkiHub add-on tab at the top
- Select “Reset local changes”
- Choose your deck
For any Anki deck:
-
Run the Check Media tool
- Go to Tools > Check Media in Anki
- This will scan your notes and media folder
- It will report files that are missing or unused
-
Understand how media works in Anki
- Media has two parts: the actual image file and the HTML reference to it
- If you see a missing media icon, you have the reference but not the file
- If a field is empty but should have media, you might be missing the HTML reference
-
For protected fields in AnkiHub decks
- Some fields are protected by default which means nothing will appear there
- You may need to unprotect fields on the AnkiHub website if you want to see content there
If you could provide more details about your specific situation (which deck you’re using, whether it’s an AnkiHub deck, what type of media is missing), I’d be happy to give more targeted advice!
Hello,
Please try the following steps:
- Ensure the “Extra” field is not protected: How to Manage Protected Fields
As the bot said:
- Open the AnkiHub add-on menu in Anki. and check what the media sync status says:
- If it shows “Downloading”: your media is still being downloaded. Just wait until it says “Idle.”
- If it shows “Idle”: the media sync should be complete.
- Reset your local changes. Here’s a tutorial: How to Reset Local Changes
If the issue continues after following these steps, please send us a screenshot so we can better understand the problem.
Let us know how it goes!
