Images and sound not working

Hi I’m really sorry but I have no idea what is going wrong or how to fix it. I am a new Anki user and imported AnKing step 1 and 2, but when I want to study the deck it looks so weird.

I hope you can see this image but to be sure I will describe it : on top it says ‘Apex (Supine; Bell);’ then a line under it there is an image icon but no image. It then says ‘Identify:’ with a play button under it which does nothing when I click on it. Then at the bottom there are a bunch of red question marks? When I click show answer it shows two image icons but no images, ‘Normal’ in pink italics and an image icon labeled ‘Bootcamp’. I have never been this confused in my life please help.


the missing images are probably due to your media syncing. If this is your first time, then it will take a long time to sync since there are many images in the deck.

You can check the progress by going to ankihub addon → media sync (if it says idle then it means media sync has completed)

The red question marks are just an Anki-related feature that goes off after a set amount of time to warn you that you are taking too long (as far as I am aware). This can be turned off if you do not want it.

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately, the images still aren’t showing, and it does say ‘idle’ for Media Sync :frowning: any idea what else could be affectin the images?

Can you confirm that you subscribed to the “AnKing Overhaul for Step 1 & 2” with 24,000 subscribers?

Please try resetting your local changes. To do this:

Go to browse in your Anki → at the top click on ankihub addon tab → press reset all local changes

This will restore everything to what AnkiHub has unless you have specifically protected those fields

If that does not work, then try this:

Unsubscribe to the deck on the ankihub addon → unsubscribe to the deck on the ankihub website → resubscribe again on the website → press sync on anki

I did this but it unfortunately did not resolve the issue :frowning: it looks exactly the same as before. I will try your other suggestion now

This sounds so stupid but how do I unsubscribe from a deck in the Anki app? Just delete it?

On the main screen of Anki → go to the top till you see AnkiHub addon → subscribed decks → click on Anking Overhaul → unsubscribe

aaaaaaaaaaaaah I’m so lost. I did this step as well, and when I subscribed and synced again the issue persisted :frowning:

Do you have enough storage on your device?

Also can you check and take a screenshot of the deck you subscribed to, is it AnKing Overhaul with 24K subscribers?

There should be a citation in that top image and I don’t see one which leads me to believe that isn’t the correct deck you subscribed to.

I have 305G free storage, so I don’t think that should be a problem.

Yes this is the wrong deck which is why you can’t see the images. At the top you should see “AnKing Overhaul for Step 1 & 2” posted by user “AnKingMed” with 24,000+ subscribers

That’s the deck you should subscribe to, delete that deck you have right now and unsubscribe from it by going to anki → ankihub addon → subscribed decks → click on it and click unsubscribe, and also make sure to unsubscribe from that deck on ankihub as well

Firstly, I’d like to say I’m an idiot. Secondly, thank you, but the same issue persists:

I made sure to unsubscribe, delete deck, unsubscribe on ankihub and then subscribe to the correct deck and sync. I feel like Anki is laughing at my many attempts to try and solve this problem. Do you maybe have any ideas on what I can try next?


Does your media sync says idle or downloading?

Can you use AnkiHub > Help > Upload logs and data and let use know the filename shown?

Not sure why this is occurring to be honest

I am also having the same issue the local reset did not change the issue
