I have been struggling to figure out the step deck. I have it loaded, but, the cards are all under one deck. I can’t get them to filter by topic/ boards and beyond sections. Any idea on how to get teh deck to filter the cards? I can find it when I got to “browse” but it almost looks like thats for a different deck. I uploaded photos below, thanks.

Reading: 🏷️ What do all the tags mean in the AnKing Step Deck?
Hi Milligancycling,
Based on your screenshots, I can see you’re trying to filter cards in the AnKing Step Deck by topic or sections. This is a common need when working with this large deck!
The AnKing Step Deck is organized by tags rather than subdecks. That’s why all the cards appear under one main deck in your Anki. To study specific sections (like boards and beyond topics), you’ll need to use filtered decks.
Here’s how to filter cards by topic:
-
Use filtered decks: You can create custom filtered decks based on the tags in the Step Deck.
- Go to Tools > Create Filtered Deck
- Use the search field to specify which cards to include using the tag structure
-
Tag structure: The Step Deck uses an extensive tagging system:
#Subjects- organizes Step 2 cards by subject!Shelf- groups cards by clinical rotation/shelf exam#B&B- Boards and Beyond tagged cards- And many more tag categories
-
Example search syntax:
- For Boards and Beyond topics:
tag:#B&B::Cardio*(for all cardiology B&B content) - For shelf topics:
tag:!Shelf::IM*(for Internal Medicine shelf content)
- For Boards and Beyond topics:

Hello,
The AnKing Step Deck does not have subdecks; it is a single deck. The subjects and study resources are organized by tags.
You can learn more about the deck here: AnKing Step Deck Wiki.
And here you can learn how to unsuspend cards for the tag you want to study: Selecting/Unsuspending Cards by Tag

Is there a step deck that can come filtered by boards and beyond topics?
The tags for Boards and Beyond subjects are already included. You can find them by expanding the Step 1 or Step 2 tags.
We recommend suspending all the cards in the deck and then unsuspending the specific Boards and Beyond tag you want to study following the tutorial: Selecting/Unsuspending Cards by Tag
Thanks Marcos, is there a good way I can transition the tags into subdecks? or will i just have to make them into subdecks manually?
Currently, there is no way to automatically create subdecks from tags, as there are a large number of them. The AnKing Deck is designed to be used without subdecks; the existing tag organization, combined with the ability to suspend and unsuspend cards, is generally sufficient for studying.
However, you can manually move cards from specific tags into their own subdecks. Select a given tag, hit command+A (Ctrl+A on Windows), right-click one of the cards, and select ‘Change Deck’ to move them wherever you’d like.
