My ankihub has two usernames for some reason and it is affecting the syncing I believe

For some reason my ankihub account appears as two separate usernames, and only one syncs with my anki. Additionally, subscribing to a deck on one does not subscribe to the other, but they are linked to the same password and email(at least it appears that way. I worry this may be the reason why decks I download from ankihub are not the same as my peers who download from the same source (certain card counts differ).

Thank you for reaching out! Our moderators have been notified and will assist you shortly. In the meantime, you can get an instant response from me simply by @ mentioning my username`. Alternatively, start a private conversation with me (see screenshot below). If you ask me a question, I will do my best to respond using only verified information found in the official AnkiHub docs and the Anki manual.

This usually happens when there are two separate AnkiHub accounts that both use (or appear to use) the same email, and only one of them is actually linked to your Anki add-on. That would also explain why:

  • Subscribing to a deck on one “profile” doesn’t show up on the other
  • Card counts differ from your peers even though you’re using “the same” deck

Because I can’t see your account data from here, I’ll outline the checks you can do and what Support will likely need.

1. Confirm which account is linked in the Anki add-on

In Anki (desktop):

  1. Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config (or AnkiHub settings).
  2. Look for the email/username shown there.
  3. Log out of the AnkiHub add-on (if there’s a logout button) and log back in carefully with:
    • One specific email
    • One specific login method (e.g., email/password or Google/Apple, but not mixing).

Then in your browser:

  1. Log out from AnkiHub Web completely.
  2. Log back in using exactly the same method you used in the add-on.
  3. Check your Profile → Settings → Account to see the username there.

This web account is the one that should match the username shown in your forum profile here and in the add-on.

2. Check if there are actually two accounts

Things that commonly cause “duplicate” accounts:

  • Logging in once with email/password and another time with Google / Apple / Microsoft using the same email address → this can create a second account.
  • A typo variant of your email (e.g., gmail.com vs gamil.com) for one of the logins.
  • Old account vs. new account after a name change or merge attempt.

On the web:

  • Check if subscribed decks list differs between the two “versions” of your account.
  • If you can trigger the “two usernames” behavior by logging out and back in two different ways (e.g., email/password vs. Google), that almost guarantees two distinct accounts.

3. Why your card counts might differ from peers

If you subscribed to the same deck on Account A, but your Anki add-on is logged into Account B, then:

  • Changes, updates, and suspensions that your peers see (using the correct account) won’t match what you have.
  • You might be on a different snapshot/version of the deck or missing some updates entirely.

Once you confirm the correct account and use only that, you can:

  1. Make sure you are subscribed with that account on AnkiHub Web.
  2. In Anki desktop, ensure you’re logged into the same AnkiHub account and click:
    • AnkiHub → Update Subscribed Decks (or similar wording).
  3. Compare card counts again with your peers.

4. Next step: contact AnkiHub Support to merge/fix accounts

Because this involves account data, you’ll likely need an admin to:

  • Confirm if there are two accounts with similar credentials.
  • Merge or delete the extra account.
  • Make sure your subscription and deck access live only under the correct username.

When you contact support (or reply again here), it helps to include:

  • The email(s) you might have used (don’t post your full email publicly if you’re not comfortable—use support channels if needed).
  • The two usernames you see.
  • Which one is currently linked in your Anki add-on.
  • A screenshot of:
    • Your AnkiHub Profile page (showing username).
    • Your AnkiHub Subscribed Decks page.
    • The AnkiHub settings in Anki showing the logged-in account.

If you’d like, you can reply here with (anonymized) screenshots, and I can help you confirm which account to keep and what to tell Support so they can resolve it quickly.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out! That definitely sounds like something we should take a closer look at. Could you please send me both AnkiHub usernames that are showing up for you, as well as screenshots of what you’re seeing on your end?

Once I have those, I can look into what’s going on and whether this could be affecting your deck subscriptions and syncing.

Warm regards,
