No images showing

I have tried all suggested fixes. My proxies are off. I have unsubscribed and resubscribed. Syncing is idle.

The images do not display on AnkiWeb, nor desktop, nor the app.

Thanks for the screenshot and details—that helps narrow this down.

Because images are missing on AnkiWeb, desktop, and mobile, this almost always means the media files themselves are not present in your collection (not just a display issue).

Let’s systematically check a few things:

1. Confirm if the media files are actually missing

On Anki Desktop:

  1. Go to Tools → Check Media…
  2. Let it run and then look at:
    • “Missing files” – do you see a long list of *.png / *.jpg / *.gif files?
    • “Unused files” – less important here.

Please reply with what it says, especially the count of missing files.

2. Make sure the right deck is subscribed in AnkiHub

Since you’re using the AnKing Step Deck / AnKingMed:

  1. Open the AnkiHub add-on in Anki (Anki → AnkiHub menu).
  2. Go to “My Decks”.
  3. Confirm you’re subscribed to:
    • The main AnKing deck (e.g., AnKingOverhaul / AnKingMed), and
    • Any Step Deck or subdeck you’re expecting images from.
  4. Click “Sync with Anki” inside the AnkiHub add-on.
  5. After that finishes, do a normal Anki → Sync (top-right sync button).

Then test if images show on a few cards.

3. Check if media is blocked or redirected

Since you said proxies are off, also quickly verify:

  1. Anki Desktop → Preferences → Network
    • Confirm Proxy type = None.
  2. On your Mac:
    • Try temporarily turning off VPNs / firewall / ad-blockers or DNS filters that could block image hosts.
  3. Try viewing the same card on AnkiWeb in a private/incognito browser window:
    • If you still see the broken image icon, it’s almost certainly missing media, not a browser setting.

4. Verify the note type is the standard one

Sometimes images don’t show because the note type/template was changed:

  1. On desktop, open one of the affected cards in the Browser.
  2. Click the card, then Cards…
  3. On the Front Template, check if the image field (e.g., {{Image}}, {{Picture}}, etc.) is present.
    • If it’s missing, the card can’t display the image even if the file exists.

If you’re not sure, you can post a screenshot of the Cards… screen for one of the problematic cards.

5. If media is missing: re‑download from AnkiHub

If Tools → Check Media shows lots of missing files:

  1. In the AnkiHub add-on:
    • Open the deck on AnkiHub from the AnkiHub menu.
    • Make sure you are logged into the correct AnkiHub account (same one you purchased / got access with).
  2. Use “Force Full Sync / Redownload” (wording may differ slightly depending on version):
    • If you see any option like “Reset local deck”, “Resubscribe and re-download”, or “Restore from AnkiHub”, use that for the affected deck.
  3. After that, sync again and test a few cards.

Next step

Can you:

  1. Run Tools → Check Media… and tell me:
    • Missing files: X
  2. Confirm that in the AnkiHub add-on → My Decks you see the Step Deck and AnKing main deck as Subscribed.

With those two pieces of info, I can give you an exact next step (whether this is a missing‑media issue vs. a template / blocking issue).

  1. Missing files: ⁨23175⁊
  2. Confirmed.

Hello,

You didn’t mention whether you’ve tried resetting local changes. Please follow this tutorial to reset your local changes, and the images should reappear: How to Reset Local Changes

Make sure to wait until the media sync status shows “idle”:

If Anki asks you to upload or download from AnkiWeb, click Upload.

One issue I am having is that the Media Sync has been “downloading” for over five hours now.

While the media sync shows “downloading,” it’s normal to have missing images. You need to keep Anki open so it can continue to download. This can take some time because there are a lot of images (several gigabytes, in fact) to be downloaded, and it also depends on your internet connection. You only have to wait this long the first time after downloading the deck. Once the initial media download is complete, you won’t face this issue anymore.

Finally worked - thank you so much!
