On the STEP deck, there is normally the purple button for smart search, but when I went to upload today it had disappeared. I restarted Anki (no luck), made sure I was signed in, and made sure my subscription was current. The feature worked when I went to use it on the web, but it’s just not showing up in Anki itself. Any ideas?

Hi Abhud,
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the Smart Search button not showing up in your STEP deck. Based on the information available, here are some troubleshooting steps:
First, let’s confirm a few things:
-
Premium Subscription: You mentioned your subscription is current, which is good since Smart Search is a premium feature.
-
Web vs Desktop: Interesting that it works on the web but not in Anki desktop.
Things to try:
-
Update the AnkiHub Add-on:
- Go to Tools > Add-ons
- Select the AnkiHub add-on
- Click “Check for Updates”
-
Check AnkiHub Menu:
- Make sure you can access the full AnkiHub menu at the top of Anki
- Ensure you’re properly logged in to your AnkiHub account in the add-on
-
Restart Anki in Safe Mode:
- Close Anki
- Hold down Shift while starting Anki again
- This will temporarily disable all add-ons
- Then restart normally to see if there’s a conflict with another add-on
-
Reinstall AnkiHub Add-on:
- Uninstall the AnkiHub add-on
- Restart Anki
- Reinstall the AnkiHub add-on from the AnkiWeb page
- Log back in to your account
If none of these solutions work, you might want to check if there’s been a recent update to either the STEP deck or the AnkiHub add-on that could be causing this issue.
Would you be able to share which version of Anki you’re using and the version of the AnkiHub add-on? This information might help pinpoint the issue.
