Smart Search not showing

For some reason, despite being a premium member, the smart search feature is not displaying. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of ANKI, I have reinstalled ANKIhub, and I genuinely do not know how to get this fixed. Help is much appreciated, the help bot said it was likely an internal error on my account settings that was beyond me.

Thanks for the detailed info and for already trying reinstalls—that rules out a lot on the local side.

Since:

  • You’re premium
  • The Smart Search UI is not showing at all
  • And the help bot already suggested it may be an internal account issue

this is very likely something on our backend/account configuration side rather than anything you can fix with reinstalling Anki or the add-on.

A few quick checks on your side (just to be thorough):

  1. Confirm you’re logged into the correct AnkiHub account in the add-on

    • In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config / Login (or similar wording).
    • Make sure the email/username shown there is the same account that has Premium on community.ankihub.net.
  2. Force a full sync with AnkiHub

    • In Anki, use the AnkiHub menu and run “Sync Decks” (or similar).
    • Restart Anki once after that.
  3. Check Anki and add-on versions

    • Anki: ideally on a recent 2.1.5x+ stable version.
    • AnkiHub add-on: latest from our installation page.
(You already reinstalled, so this is mostly to confirm no very old version is being used.)

If after those steps Smart Search is still completely missing, then this fits exactly what the bot described: an internal issue with how Premium/Smart Search is enabled for your account.

Because this likely requires someone to look directly at your account and subscription on the backend, the next step is:

  • Please reply here with:
    • Confirmation of the email/username of your AnkiHub account (you can obfuscate part of the email if you prefer and send the full one to support privately).
    • Your Anki version (from Help → About Anki).
    • Your AnkiHub add-on version (from Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → View Files or displayed in the add-on list).

I’d then tag this for the AnkiHub team so they can:

  • Check your Premium status flags
  • Ensure Smart Search is enabled for your account
  • Fix any misconfiguration on the server side

In the meantime, you don’t need to keep reinstalling—once the account flag is corrected on our side, the Smart Search option should show up automatically the next time you restart and sync Anki.

Hello,

To use the Smart Search feature in Anki:

If you can’t see this feature, please go to AnkiHub > Config on your Anki main screen and make sure the correct boxes are checked. Don’t forget to save any changes you make.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

If the Smart Search button in the main screen is still not showing, please follow the steps:

  1. Go to AnkiHub > Config
  2. Enable the Verbose logs option at the bottom.
  3. Restart Anki.
  4. Select the Step deck.
  5. Use AnkiHub > Help > Upload logs and post the filename shown.

I’m having the same issue. Tried all of the steps above and can’t get the smart search back. I see it in the browse tab but it’s grayed out and not clickable.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.
