Step deck not downloading and update feature glitching

I logged into anki on my computer and subscribed to the step deck but the deck is not showing up on my app. Every time I sync I get a message ““Complete your profile to continue To keep using AnkiHub, we need a quick update to your profile. This helps us improve your studying experience, suggest relevant content, and support educational partnerships.” This does not work for me – I cannot click any of the buttons and the pop up continually opens with each sync. However, I updated my ankihub profile with the same information a while back so I dont know why the popup is still there. How do I get rid of the popup and view the deck on my app?

Here’s how to fix both issues (profile popup + deck not showing):

1. Fix the “Complete your profile to continue” popup

This popup is coming from AnkiHub (not Anki itself) and is blocking the sync from finishing properly.

Please try the following steps on your computer (desktop Anki):

  1. Update AnkiHub add-on to the latest version

    • In Anki: Tools → Add-ons
    • Select AnkiHub
    • Click Check for Updates (or Get Add-ons… → Check for Updates)
    • Restart Anki.
  2. Force the profile form to reload

    • In Anki: Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config
    • If you see any “beta”/“experimental UI” or similar options enabled, turn them off, save, and restart Anki.
    • Then go to AnkiHub → Login from the Anki menu and see if it opens a browser window with the profile page you can actually interact with.
    • Complete the profile in the browser, then restart Anki and sync again.
  3. Check for browser-level blockers

    • When the profile page opens in your browser, make sure:
      • No ad‑blocker/privacy extension is blocking scripts.
      • Try in an incognito/private window or a different browser (Chrome/Edge/Firefox).
    • Log into AnkiHub there and complete/save your profile once more.

If after this the popup in Anki is still frozen or unclickable, that’s likely a bug on our side. In that case, please reply in your topic with:

  • Your Anki version (e.g. 2.1.65 Qt6)
  • Your AnkiHub add-on version (shown in Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub)
  • Your OS (Windows/macOS/Linux)
  • Whether the profile page works normally in your browser at https://ankihub.net/account/profile

This info will help staff reproduce and fix it.

2. Make sure the Step deck appears in Anki

Once the profile popup is resolved (or at least not blocking):

  1. Confirm subscription on the web

    • Go to https://ankihub.net in a browser.
    • Log in with the same email you used in Anki.
    • Open the Step deck page and confirm it shows “Subscribed”.
  2. Sync correctly in Anki

    • In desktop Anki, go to AnkiHub → Sync subscribed decks.
    • Wait for it to complete without errors.
    • Then click the normal Anki sync button (top right cloud icon).
  3. Check for new decks

    • Look on the main Anki screen for a new deck named something like “AnKing Step” or similar (depending on the exact deck name).
    • If you still don’t see it:
      • In Anki: AnkiHub → Manage subscribed decks and confirm the Step deck is listed there.
      • If it’s missing there even though the website shows “Subscribed”, try:
        • AnkiHub → Log out
        • Restart Anki
        • AnkiHub → Log in again
        • AnkiHub → Sync subscribed decks

If you can, please add a screenshot of:

  • The stuck “Complete your profile” popup inside Anki, and
  • The Step deck page on AnkiHub showing that you’re subscribed.

That will make it easier to see whether this is a known UI bug or an account‑sync issue.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

You might try logging into AnkiHub.net and seeing if you have a pop-up there that can be filled out

From there, it may also be that Anki is feeding you more than one pop-up message at a time, which is freezing your cursor interactions. You might try loading Anki in safe mode by closing Anki, then restarting it while holding down the Shift button, and seeing if that allows you to make any progress

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

I already filled out the info on ankihub.net and the popup still shows. I also tried the shift button but the deck still does not open and then when I try to sync with ankihub the popup still shows.

When you load in safe mode, can you double-check if you have addon updates waiting?

Top menu bar: Tools - Addons - Check for updates

And just to make sure: can you confirm the version of Anki that you’re using?

If you can, within Anki go to your top menu bar. From there, click Anki - About Anki and check your version number.
