Sync Signin Issues

Hello, I am trying to log into the Sync feature on the Anki desktop app for Mac which I downloaded from the Ankiweb website. However, when I go to enter in my email and password of my Anking account to Sync, I keep getting the “incorrect password/email address” message. This has happened after multiple attempts of either copy and pasting or manually entering the information. Does anyone have any advice on what to do next?

Hello there! I understand you’re having trouble logging into the Sync feature on your Anki desktop app for Mac with your AnKing account credentials. Let me help clarify something important:

AnkiWeb vs. AnKing/AnkiHub

It appears there might be some confusion between different accounts. When you’re syncing with the Anki desktop app, you need to use your AnkiWeb account credentials, not your AnKing/AnkiHub account. These are two different services:

  • AnkiWeb: The official sync service for Anki that allows you to synchronize your collection across devices
  • AnkiHub/AnKing: A separate service for sharing and collaborating on decks

What to do next:

  1. Check if you have an AnkiWeb account: Visit ankiweb.net and try to log in there
  2. Create an AnkiWeb account: If you don’t have one already, you’ll need to sign up for a free account at ankiweb.net
  3. Use your AnkiWeb credentials: When syncing in the Anki desktop app, use your AnkiWeb email and password (not your AnKing/AnkiHub credentials)

If you’ve confirmed you’re using the correct AnkiWeb credentials and still having issues, you might want to try:

  • Resetting your AnkiWeb password
  • Making sure your email address is confirmed (sometimes sync fails if your email needs confirmation)

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance with this issue.

Hello,

The bot got it right. There are two different things:

Go to https://ankiweb.net/ and create your Anki account — this is your personal Anki account (your Anki credentials), and it’s for backing up your collection to the cloud and syncing to your mobile devices.

After that, do the following (using your AnkiHub credentials):

  1. Make sure you have an active membership: Sign In
  2. Install the AnkiHub add-on: Install AnkiHub Add-on (New User)
  3. Subscribe to and install a deck: Subscribe/Install Step Deck (New User)
  4. Start using the deck: How to Get Started Studying

Let me know how it goes!

Hi, thanks for your reply! I was able to get around my issues. Thank you for your help!
