Hi! I’ve been unable to get my Anki browser to show my Optional Tag groups that I subscribed to. I double checked that my Anki is up to date, as are my add-ons. After syncing up my Anki, I still do not see an Optional Tag deck under the Browse tab. Does anyone know what I can do?

Hi there! I can help you access your Optional Tag Groups in AnkiHub. Based on the screenshots you’ve shared, it looks like you’ve successfully subscribed to Optional Tag Groups, but they’re not appearing in your Anki browser sidebar.
How to access Optional Tag Groups
According to the official documentation, once you’ve subscribed to Optional Tag Groups and synced:
- Your Optional Tag Groups should appear in the Anki browser sidebar under “AnkiHub_Optional”
- It should look like this in your browser sidebar:
Troubleshooting steps to try:
-
Perform an AnkiHub sync again
- Go to AnkiHub add-on menu and click “Sync”
- Make sure the sync completes successfully
-
Reset Optional Tag Groups
- In Anki Browser, go to AnkiHub → Reset Optional Tag Group
- This is useful if you’ve made local changes or if updates were lost during syncing
-
Check your sidebar view
- Make sure you’re in the Tags view in your browser sidebar
- You may need to expand the AnkiHub_Optional section to see your subscribed tag groups
-
Restart Anki
- Sometimes a simple restart of Anki can help the changes appear
-
Check add-on compatibility
- Ensure no other add-ons are conflicting with AnkiHub
If you’ve tried these steps and still don’t see your Optional Tag Groups, please let me know so we can explore additional troubleshooting options. You may also want to check if there are any error messages when syncing that could provide more information.
I have already tried these steps. Need additional troubleshooting options.
I understand you’ve already tried the basic troubleshooting steps. Let’s explore some additional options to help you access your Optional Tag Groups.
Advanced troubleshooting for Optional Tag Groups:
-
Check AnkiHub add-on configuration:
- Go to Tools → Add-ons
- Select AnkiHub and click “Config”
- Make sure there are no unusual settings that might affect tag syncing
-
Try the Browse sidebar tools:
- In the browser, check if you can switch between the two sidebar tools using Alt+1/Alt+2
- Sometimes the sidebar view needs to be toggled to show different organization methods
-
Verify browser filters aren’t hiding tags:
- Check if any filters are active in your browser that might be hiding the AnkiHub_Optional tags
- Try clearing all filters and search terms
-
Manual database check:
- Go to Tools → Check Database
- This can help resolve inconsistencies in your Anki database
-
Full profile sync:
- Try a full sync with AnkiWeb (not just AnkiHub sync)
- In the sync dialog, choose “Upload to AnkiWeb” and then after completion, “Download from AnkiWeb”
-
Re-subscribe to the Optional Tag Groups:
- Unsubscribe from the Optional Tag Groups
- Perform an AnkiHub sync
- Re-subscribe to the Optional Tag Groups
- Sync again
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be helpful to:
- Check the AnkiHub sync logs for any error messages
- Consider creating a new Anki profile temporarily to test if the issue persists there
- Reach out to the AnkiHub support team directly with your specific version information and detailed steps you’ve already taken
Let me know if any of these additional steps help or if you need further assistance!
Hello again; I got you.
I went ahead and tagged one of our developers for you to take a look. In the meantime, can you do the following just so we have all that right info at their disposal?
- Please use AnkiHub > Help > Upload logs and data and let us know the filename shown.
From there we can hopefully get you squared away and back to studying.
Of course! Thanks

@cristian You only have ~250 notes in your AnKing deck.
Please use the AnkiHub > Reset all local changes to a deck option to get all missing notes.
That solved it! Thanks so much!!
