Images Not Working on Cards - Troubleshooting Guide

It looks like you’re having issues with images not displaying properly on your cards. This is a common issue that can have several causes. Here’s how to troubleshoot:

Check Your Media Sync Status

First, verify if AnkiHub has finished downloading media for your deck:

  1. Open the AnkiHub add-on menu in Anki
  2. Check what the media sync status says:
    • If it shows “Downloading” - your media is still being downloaded, just wait until it says “Idle”
    • If it shows “Idle” - the media sync should be complete

Note: Media sync can take up to 60 minutes depending on your internet connection.

Common Causes for Missing Images

  1. Incomplete media sync - As mentioned above, wait for the sync to complete
  2. Subscription to incorrect deck - Make sure you’re subscribed to the official deck version
  3. Protected fields - AnkiHub protects certain fields by default, which may prevent images from showing
  4. Missing media files - The HTML reference exists but the actual media file is missing

How to Fix Missing Images

Option 1: Reset Local Changes

  1. Go to Browse in Anki
  2. Click on the AnkiHub add-on tab at the top
  3. Select “Reset local changes”
  4. Select your deck

Option 2: Check Protected Fields

If you’ve unprotected fields that AnkiHub doesn’t provide media for, this may result in missing images. You may need to:

  1. Check your protected fields settings
  2. Consider protecting fields you don’t need images for
  3. Import specific media for unprotected fields if needed

Option 3: Check Media Files

Run Tools → Check Media in Anki to see if you have missing media files.

For AnKing Deck Users

If you’re using the AnKing Step Deck, note that AnkiHub downloads media for specific fields: Text, Extra, Sketchy, and Pixorize. If you’re missing media in other fields, you might need to import those separately.

If you need more specific help, please let me know which deck you’re using and I can provide more targeted assistance.

Hello,

To help us understand the problem better, could you please answer a couple of questions?

  • When you say the images are missing, are you seeing a broken image icon, or is the space completely empty?
  • Which fields are affected? Is it the “Extra” field (the back of the card), or are other fields involved as well?

Also, please try checking your media sync status and resetting your local changes again, as the bot suggested: How to Reset Local Changes

If the issue doesn’t go away after that, please let us know and provide a screenshot of the problem if possible. That would be a great help!
