I have been using Anking v12 (without ankihub subscription) for about a year. I now want to upgrade to ankihub to get the latest tags, images, etc. However, I have made many personal notes to thousands of cards. Iâve added my notes are in the âadditional resourcesâ field since it always seemed unused. Is this field used in ankihub and if it is does that mean that before purchasing ankihub and syncing, do I need to move my notes from the additional resources field to a different unused one (like âmissed questionsâ)? If I need to move my notes, what is the fastest way to do so?
Or can I simply leave my notes as is, and just protect the additional resources field before syncing? This assumes that additional resources remains empty for all cards?

Youâre safe to subscribe to AnkiHub without manually moving all those notes first. Hereâs how to handle it cleanly:
1. Does AnkiHub use the Additional Resources field?
For the current AnKing V12 on AnkiHub, the core public fields that get updated most often are things like Text, Extra, Images, etc. âAdditional Resourcesâ is not one of the primary frequently-edited fields described in the AnKing Step Deck field wiki, and many users do use it for personal content.
However, AnkiHub can theoretically update any field thatâs part of the shared note type. So to be 100% safe, you should assume that âAdditional Resourcesâ might receive changes from the shared deck over time.
2. Easiest safe approach: protect your field locally
You do not need to move thousands of notes if you donât want to.
Instead:
Install the AnkiHub add-on and subscribe to the AnKing deck.
In Anki, open the AnkiHub add-on settings for that deck.
Under Protected Fields, add Additional Resources.
Sync with AnkiHub.
Result:
Your âAdditional Resourcesâ content stays exactly as-is on your computer.
AnkiHub updates to that field will be ignored on your side.
Other fields (tags, images, Text, Extra, etc.) can still update normally.
This works even if âAdditional Resourcesâ is completely empty on the shared AnkiHub version; your local data will simply be preserved and wonât be overwritten.
3. If you do want to move to another field (optional)
Only do this if youâd rather keep âAdditional Resourcesâ free for future community use:
In the Browser, search for the AnKing note type.
Select all notes, then:
Rightâclick the Additional Resources column â Edit Field wonât move data, so instead:
Use Edit â Find and Replace:
In field: Additional Resources
Find: regex:(.*)
Replace: \1
But set the destination field to something like Missed Questions using the âInto fieldâ option (if you use an add-on like âAdvanced Find and Replaceâ).
Alternatively, export/import with a CSV and map fields, but thatâs more work.
Then protect that new field instead (e.g. Missed Questions) in the AnkiHub settings.
Given your use case, the simplest and fastest is:
Leave your notes in Additional Resources and protect that field in AnkiHub before syncing.
If you share a screenshot of your current AnKing note type (field list), I can confirm exactly which field name to protect.
