Hello! I understand you’re having issues with images in the “Extra” section not syncing properly. This is a common issue that can happen with AnkiHub decks, especially the AnKing deck. Let me help you troubleshoot this.

Based on the information in our community resources, here are some steps to resolve this issue:

First, check your media sync status

  1. Go to the AnkiHub add-on menu at the top of your Anki window
  2. Check what the media sync status says:
    • If it says “Downloading” - your media is still in the process of downloading
    • If it says “Idle” - the sync should be complete

Note that media syncing can take up to 60 minutes depending on your internet connection.

Try these additional troubleshooting steps

Since you’ve already tried resetting local changes (which was a good first step), here are some additional things to check:

  1. Verify you’re subscribed to the official deck

    • For AnKing decks, make sure you’re subscribed to the official version from the AnKing team
  2. Force a media re-download

    • Go to the AnkiHub add-on menu
    • Select “Import Media”
    • Choose the appropriate method based on your situation
  3. Check if the Extra field is protected

    • For the AnKing Step Deck, AnkiHub downloads media specifically for the Text, Extra, Sketchy, and Pixorize fields
    • Make sure these fields are properly protected

If the issue persists after trying these steps, it might be helpful to provide more specific details about which images aren’t loading and exactly which AnKing deck you’re using, so the community can provide more targeted assistance.

Hello,

Could you please try the following troubleshooting steps?

  1. First, check if the “Extra” field is NOT protected by following this guide: How to Manage Protected Fields

  2. Then, please try resetting your local changes again: How to Reset Local Changes

Also, can you clarify what you’re seeing? Do the images simply not appear, or do they show up as broken image icons?

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, please provide an example of a card that has this problem so I can investigate it further!

Hi! I did steps 1 and 2 again and still have the same problem. I think some are broken image but some are also just blank.
Here is an example of the broken image icon:

“Blank” example:

The blank ones I have been going on anki hub and pasting the image in, but it’s taking too much time to do that. Thanks for your help!

If you go to AnkiHub > Deck Management, unsubscribe the AnKing deck there and subscribe again, do the images appear?

Did that, but it did not fix (checked against the 2 cards provided in my earlier reply), then I reset local changes again. First card with broken file icon is fixed, but second card and many others have that same blank problem.

Can you use Tools > Check Media and send the text as an attached file here?

Here you go!

Hi there!
I’m having the same issue and already tried both of your recommendations, but nothing worked. This is what it looks like:

Some help for solving this issue would be great! Thanks

Hello

It could be a few things, but let’s tackle the most likely options roughly in order:

From within Anki, click on the top menu bar: Anki - About Anki. See what your version number is. If it’s anything other than 25.02 (or later) you’ll want to update: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Once you’ve done that, if you don’t already have the AnKing Note Types add-on installed, you’ll want to install that to make sure that your note types are fully up to date. From the top menu bar: Tools - Add-ons - Get Add-ons, and insert this code: 952691989.

Once you’re done with that, restart Anki and it should prompt you to update your note types. Go through that, and once you’re done restart Anki one more time.

From there, go to your top menu bar: AnKing - AnKing Note Types, and from the resulting screen make sure that the ‘Update notetypes’ button at the bottom is grayed out. If it’s grayed out, you’re fully updated. If it’s not, click on that to update again (sometimes it takes doing it twice).

Once that’s done, restart Anki once more and then follow this tutorial: Resetting Local Changes

Give those things a shot, and let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there.

Hi Brian, thanks for your quick reply
Soo, I did all these steps and still it’s not showing the images…
My Anki Version is the newest (25.02.7), I downloaded the add-on, did all updates and restarted Anki afterwards.
Any more ideas?

Ah, is this the RapidReview deck, by chance? I hadn’t looked closely at the image at first, but that seems to be the case

If so, the deck owner I believe uploaded the media separately. You can head to the deck page on AnkiHub, ‘View on Community’ and I believe there is more information there

For whatever reason they just included their media in a separate file, rather than via the add-on, and so it won’t sync via the AnkiHub add-on as with most other decks

Let me know what you figure out and we can go from there.

I think I understand the issue now, but just one check to confirm:

  • Go to Anki’s media folder. See this if you’re unsure how to do that: Managing Files - Anki Manual
  • Search for any filename that’s missing from notes, e.g. 95aae1722109683f19a19dc1a19108da.webp.
  • Do you see the file? If so, does it display correctly?

Hi!
So when I follow those steps and look up the file name, two came up. The highlighted one opened and showed me the JIA chart but the second one does not open.

Thank you, @aleja1. That confirms the issue. We’re already tracking this, and I’ll see if we can prioritize it soon. Can you use AnkiHub > Help > Upload logs and post the filename shown? That will help us debug it further.
