Thanks for all the detailed info — that helps narrow this down a lot.
What you’re seeing is not expected behavior: if everything is set up correctly, right‑clicking the AnKing Step Deck in your deck list should show an AnkiHub section (e.g. “Link to AnkiHub deck” / “Unlink from AnkiHub deck”, etc.).
Right now there are two likely issues:
-
Anki version 25.09.2 is very new / non‑standard
- Most of our testing and docs are based on the regular stable Anki releases (e.g. 2.1.65–2.1.68 at the moment).
- Some “experimental” / distro / self‑compiled builds can break add‑on behavior even if the add‑on appears to load (like your “Sync with AnkiHub” menu still showing).
-
The local “AnKing Step Deck” may not be recognized as the same deck AnkiHub expects
- If the deck was created or renamed in a non‑standard way, or imported from somewhere else, AnkiHub sometimes doesn’t attach its right‑click menu to that deck.
Because I can’t see your exact setup, I can’t say with 100% certainty which one it is, but the safest and most reliable path is:
1. Move to a supported Anki version
On macOS 14.6.1, I strongly recommend:
- Go to https://apps.ankiweb.net
- Download the current stable Intel/Apple Silicon build (2.1.6x, not 25.x or a third‑party distro).
- Install it over your current Anki (your data will remain).
- Start Anki again and confirm the version in
Anki → About.
Most AnkiHub users (including AnKing deck users) are on these official stable builds. Known issues are fixed much faster there, and the AnkiHub add‑on is specifically tested against them.
2. Make sure the deck is created from AnkiHub
Since Deck Management already shows that you’re subscribed to AnKing Step Deck and that new cards should go to that deck, do this:
- In Anki, go to AnkiHub → Deck Management.
- Under Subscribed AnkiHub Decks → AnKing Step Deck, click:
- Deck Options → Change Destination for New Cards, and make sure it is exactly “AnKing Step Deck” and there is only one deck with that name.
- If you’re unsure your current deck is clean, you can:
- Temporarily rename your existing local deck to something like
AnKing Step Deck (old).
- In Deck Management, with AnKing Step Deck selected, click Create / Import Deck (if available) or trigger a sync so AnkiHub can create the deck fresh.
- Once the “official” AnKing Step Deck is created by AnkiHub, right‑click it in the deck list and check if the AnkiHub menu shows up.
If there are two decks with similar names, AnkiHub may attach to the one it created, not the manually‑imported one.
3. Check that the add‑on is actually fully active
Even though you see “Sync with AnkiHub”, it’s worth confirming:
- In Anki: Tools → Add‑ons
- Make sure AnkiHub is enabled (no strike‑through).
- Select it → click View Files to confirm it’s the current version (if you installed recently from AnkiWeb or our Getting Started guide, it should be).
- Restart Anki after enabling/disabling to test.
If you’ve recently updated Anki or installed a non‑standard version, sometimes disabling all other add‑ons except AnkiHub and restarting can reveal if something else is interfering with the right‑click menu.
4. If it still doesn’t show up
Please reply in your topic with:
- The exact Anki version after you switch to the official build (e.g. 2.1.68 Qt6).
- A screenshot of:
AnkiHub → Deck Management → AnKing Step Deck
- Your deck list showing all decks named anything like “AnKing Step Deck”
- The right‑click menu on the deck that you believe should be linked.
If after moving to an official 2.1.x and letting AnkiHub create the deck, you still don’t get the AnkiHub options on right‑click, that would likely be a genuine bug with the current add‑on, and we can escalate it to the devs with your screenshots and version info.
For now, the most important step is: switch to the official stable Anki (2.1.x) build and let AnkiHub create / manage the AnKing Step Deck itself. That alone resolves most “no AnkiHub options on deck” issues.
