“AnKing Step Deck not linking to AnkiHub on Anki 25.09.2 (no AnkiHub options on deck)”

Hi guys no matter what i do i get none of the updates from ankihub to my anki, i even got the 10 dollar monthly version and i still get no updates.

  • OS: macOS 14.6.1 (23G93)

  • Anki version: 25.09.2 (3890e12c)

  • AnkiHub add‑on is installed and I see:

    • AnkiHub → Deck Management → Sync with AnkiHub
  • I’m subscribed to AnKing Step Deck on the AnkiHub website and in Deck Management, which shows:

    Subscribed AnkiHub Decks
    AnKing Step Deck
    Open on AnkiHub
    Unsubscribe
    Deck Options
Suspend new cards of existing notes (if siblings are suspended)
Suspend new cards of new notes
    Enable Subdecks
Remove notes without review history locally when deleted on AnkiHub
    Destination for New Cards
New cards are saved to: AnKing Step Deck.
    Change Destination for New Cards

  • But when I right‑click the “AnKing Step Deck” in my deck list, I only see:

    • Rename

    • Options

    • Export

    • Delete

    • Postpone cards

    • FSRS Helper

    • Export Media

    • Export Media (exclude files in GDrive)
and no AnkiHub‑related options at all.

  • I tried:

    • Signing out and back into AnkiHub in the add‑on

    • Unsubscribing and resubscribing to AnKing Step Deck (multiple times)

    • Restarting Anki

    • But I never get any option to link the deck or create/import it from AnkiHub, and Deck Management looks exactly the same.

  • Is this a known issue with the current AnkiHub add‑on on Anki 25.09.2?

  • Is there a recommended Anki version or AnkiHub add‑on version I should use so that:

    • The AnKing Step Deck can be properly linked, and

    • AnkiHub options appear when I right‑click the deck?

Thanks for all the detailed info — that helps narrow this down a lot.

What you’re seeing is not expected behavior: if everything is set up correctly, right‑clicking the AnKing Step Deck in your deck list should show an AnkiHub section (e.g. “Link to AnkiHub deck” / “Unlink from AnkiHub deck”, etc.).

Right now there are two likely issues:

  1. Anki version 25.09.2 is very new / non‑standard

    • Most of our testing and docs are based on the regular stable Anki releases (e.g. 2.1.65–2.1.68 at the moment).
    • Some “experimental” / distro / self‑compiled builds can break add‑on behavior even if the add‑on appears to load (like your “Sync with AnkiHub” menu still showing).
  2. The local “AnKing Step Deck” may not be recognized as the same deck AnkiHub expects

    • If the deck was created or renamed in a non‑standard way, or imported from somewhere else, AnkiHub sometimes doesn’t attach its right‑click menu to that deck.

Because I can’t see your exact setup, I can’t say with 100% certainty which one it is, but the safest and most reliable path is:

1. Move to a supported Anki version

On macOS 14.6.1, I strongly recommend:

  1. Go to https://apps.ankiweb.net
  2. Download the current stable Intel/Apple Silicon build (2.1.6x, not 25.x or a third‑party distro).
  3. Install it over your current Anki (your data will remain).
  4. Start Anki again and confirm the version in Anki → About.

Most AnkiHub users (including AnKing deck users) are on these official stable builds. Known issues are fixed much faster there, and the AnkiHub add‑on is specifically tested against them.

2. Make sure the deck is created from AnkiHub

Since Deck Management already shows that you’re subscribed to AnKing Step Deck and that new cards should go to that deck, do this:

  1. In Anki, go to AnkiHub → Deck Management.
  2. Under Subscribed AnkiHub Decks → AnKing Step Deck, click:
    • Deck Options → Change Destination for New Cards, and make sure it is exactly “AnKing Step Deck” and there is only one deck with that name.
  3. If you’re unsure your current deck is clean, you can:
    • Temporarily rename your existing local deck to something like AnKing Step Deck (old).
    • In Deck Management, with AnKing Step Deck selected, click Create / Import Deck (if available) or trigger a sync so AnkiHub can create the deck fresh.
  4. Once the “official” AnKing Step Deck is created by AnkiHub, right‑click it in the deck list and check if the AnkiHub menu shows up.

If there are two decks with similar names, AnkiHub may attach to the one it created, not the manually‑imported one.

3. Check that the add‑on is actually fully active

Even though you see “Sync with AnkiHub”, it’s worth confirming:

  1. In Anki: Tools → Add‑ons
  2. Make sure AnkiHub is enabled (no strike‑through).
  3. Select it → click View Files to confirm it’s the current version (if you installed recently from AnkiWeb or our Getting Started guide, it should be).
  4. Restart Anki after enabling/disabling to test.

If you’ve recently updated Anki or installed a non‑standard version, sometimes disabling all other add‑ons except AnkiHub and restarting can reveal if something else is interfering with the right‑click menu.

4. If it still doesn’t show up

Please reply in your topic with:

  • The exact Anki version after you switch to the official build (e.g. 2.1.68 Qt6).
  • A screenshot of:
    • AnkiHub → Deck Management → AnKing Step Deck
    • Your deck list showing all decks named anything like “AnKing Step Deck”
    • The right‑click menu on the deck that you believe should be linked.

If after moving to an official 2.1.x and letting AnkiHub create the deck, you still don’t get the AnkiHub options on right‑click, that would likely be a genuine bug with the current add‑on, and we can escalate it to the devs with your screenshots and version info.

For now, the most important step is: switch to the official stable Anki (2.1.x) build and let AnkiHub create / manage the AnKing Step Deck itself. That alone resolves most “no AnkiHub options on deck” issues.

Hello,

Once you are subscribed to the deck on AnkiHub and logged into Anki through the AnkiHub add-on, everything is set up. If the deck appears in the Deck Management menu, it means it is already connected to your Anki.

AnkiHub automatically syncs every time you click the sync button in Anki. But you can also sync through here:

If you suspect you are not up to date, you can always reset local changes. This will ensure you have the latest version: How to Reset Local Changes

Could you please specify which updates you feel you are not receiving?

thank you for being quick to reply, i did everything you told me to do and its not updating

idk which one specifically, but when i compare my decks to my friends im missign new cards such as neuromyelitis optica and im missing images to them

wouldnt me going back to that anki version mess up with my new fsrs settings and other things?

You won’t “lose everything,” but there are a few things to be careful about.

1. FSRS and deck options

Your FSRS parameters and deck options are stored in your collection, not in the Anki app itself.
So if you:

  1. Sync to AnkiWeb (if you use it)
  2. Install an official stable Anki 2.1.x from https://apps.ankiweb.net
  3. Open your existing profile

…your FSRS settings and scheduling should come over automatically.

Still, I’d recommend:

  • In current Anki, go to Tools → Preferences → Backups and confirm you have recent backups.
  • Optional: take screenshots of Deck Options → FSRS pages for your main deck groups so you can re‑enter them if needed.

2. Add‑ons / UI differences

Going from 25.09.2 → 2.1.x may disable some add‑ons if they’re not compatible with the official builds. You can always re‑enable or reinstall them later. This doesn’t affect your review history or FSRS data.

3. Why this step is still worth it

Since:

  • You’re missing cards/images your friend has (e.g. neuromyelitis optica cards), and
  • You don’t see the expected AnkiHub deck‑link behavior,

the fastest way to rule out a weird/unsupported build issue is to move to the official stable Anki that AnkiHub is tested on. Once on 2.1.x we can:

  1. Confirm AnkiHub right‑click options / linking work as expected.
  2. If needed, reset local changes for AnKing Step Deck so you get the latest cards + media from AnkiHub.

If you’re willing, do this next and then report back:

  1. Install official Anki 2.1.x over your current install.
  2. Open Anki → confirm version in Anki → About.
  3. Run AnkiHub → Sync with AnkiHub.
  4. Check whether the missing card (neuromyelitis optica) and associated images appear after a sync or a reset local changes on AnKing Step Deck.

Post a screenshot of:

  • Anki → About (showing version)
  • AnkiHub → Deck Management → AnKing Step Deck
  • One example card that is still missing, if any

and we can troubleshoot more precisely without risking your settings.

changing the anki version did not do anything

Thanks for the screenshots—that helps.

At this point:

  • You’re on an official Anki build (good),
  • You’re logged into AnkiHub and subscribed to AnKing Step Deck,
  • But you’re still missing cards/images and don’t see the expected AnkiHub behavior on the deck.

The next useful step is to force your local AnKing Step Deck to exactly match AnkiHub’s version. That also tells us whether the deck is actually linked correctly.

1. Confirm the deck is in Deck Management

In Anki:

  1. Go to AnkiHub → Deck Management.
  2. Under Subscribed AnkiHub Decks, click AnKing Step Deck.
  3. Confirm:
    • It shows as Subscribed (no error banner).
    • “New cards are saved to: AnKing Step Deck” (or similar).

If it doesn’t list exactly the deck you’re studying, let me know what you see there.

2. Reset local changes for AnKing Step Deck

Please follow this guide carefully:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: https://community.ankihub.net/t/how-to-reset-local-changes/280708

For AnKing Step Deck, in short:

  1. In Deck Management, select AnKing Step Deck.
  2. Click Deck Options → Reset Local Changes.
  3. Confirm the warnings (this will overwrite local content of that deck with what’s on AnkiHub, but keeps your scheduling/review history).
  4. When prompted, run “Sync with AnkiHub” and then the regular Anki sync.

After this finishes:

  • Search in the browser for the card you mentioned, e.g. neuromyelitis optica.
  • Check if the images now appear on that card.

3. If you’re still missing cards or images

Please reply with:

  1. A screenshot of AnkiHub → Deck Management → AnKing Step Deck (full panel).
  2. A screenshot of:
    • Your deck list showing the exact name and hierarchy of AnKing Step Deck.
    • The right‑click menu on that deck.
  3. In the Browser:
    • Search neuromyelitis optica.
    • Open one of the notes that should have an image.
    • Screenshot the Fields and the card preview.

That will let us see if:

  • The local deck is maybe a different AnKing version that isn’t actually connected, or
  • Media just hasn’t downloaded correctly, or
  • There’s a bug we need to escalate.

For now, the most important test is: does “Reset Local Changes” on AnKing Step Deck bring in the missing NMO card and its image?

Reverting to an older version of Anki will not resolve the issue. The AnkiHub add-on is fully compatible with the latest Anki versions. When you reset local changes, your local deck is synced against the cloud version on AnkiHub, ensuring that you have the exact same deck as every other subscriber. I can 100% assure you that performing a reset will provide you with the most current version of the AnKing Step Deck available.

You said your Anki version was 25.09.2, but the screenshot shows an older version.

Please ensure you are on the latest version of Anki. You can download it here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/. After downloading, simply run the downloaded file to update your application.

One possibility is that you have certain fields protected that shouldn’t be. Please follow this tutorial and ensure that the “Text” and “Extra” fields are not protected. Also, make sure you do not have any fields protected for the study resources you use: How to Manage Protected Fields

Note that to access the First-Aid or Boards and Beyond content you will need a separate subscription to that resource. You can learn more about how this integration works here: McGraw Hill Integration FAQ

Regarding your friend’s collection, it is difficult to say why it looks different without seeing their specific setup. They may have cards from other sources or an older version of the deck.

Let me know if you need help with anything else!

You’re all good to stay on the latest Anki – no need to downgrade again. The behavior you’re seeing now (still missing cards/images after changing versions) almost always comes down to one of these:

  1. The deck isn’t fully in sync with the AnkiHub version
  2. Some fields are protected that shouldn’t be
  3. You’re expecting media that is actually part of a paid integration (First Aid, B&B, etc.)

To move forward in a clean, low‑risk way, I’d suggest doing these three checks in order:

1. Make absolutely sure you’ve reset local changes

For AnKing Step Deck only:

  1. In Anki, go to AnkiHub → Deck Management.
  2. Click AnKing Step Deck under Subscribed AnkiHub Decks.
  3. Click Deck Options → Reset Local Changes.
  4. Confirm the warnings and let it finish.
  5. Then run:
    • AnkiHub → Sync with AnkiHub, and
    • The regular Anki sync button.

This does not delete your review history; it just forces your local notes/fields to match what’s on AnkiHub.

After that, in the Browser search for neuromyelitis optica and see:

  • Does the note now exist?
  • If yes, is any image showing on the card preview?

2. Check protected fields

If a field is protected, AnkiHub can’t update it, so you can end up missing text or images other people see.

Follow this guide and apply it to AnKing Step Deck:
https://community.ankihub.net/t/how-to-manage-protected-fields/280704

For your main AnKing note types, make sure:

  • “Text” and “Extra” are not protected
  • You don’t have any study‑resource‑specific fields protected unless you know exactly why

After adjusting, Sync with AnkiHub again and re‑check the NMO card.

3. Clarify what media you expect

Some images/fields on AnKing cards come from integrations that require separate subscriptions (e.g. First Aid, Boards & Beyond, etc.). If your friend has those and you don’t, their cards can look “richer” than yours.

What would help next

If, after:

  • Resetting local changes on AnKing Step Deck,
  • Verifying “Text” and “Extra” are not protected, and
  • Syncing with AnkiHub,

you still don’t see the NMO card/image, please post:

  1. Screenshot of AnkiHub → Deck Management → AnKing Step Deck.
  2. In the Browser:
    • Search neuromyelitis optica
    • Open the note and screenshot:
      • The Fields (showing which fields have content)
      • The card preview on the right

With that, we can tell whether:

  • The note itself is missing,
  • The media didn’t download, or
  • It’s content that’s gated behind an external subscription.

nothing worked once again, and everything stayed the same

Thinking

Read topic
Reading: “AnKing Step Deck not linking to AnkiHub on Anki 25.09.2 (no AnkiHub options on deck)”

Thanks for the extra screenshots — they clarify a lot.

From what you’ve shown:

  • The NMO note does exist in your collection.
  • The main text/image fields are already filled (you can see the question and answer text in the Browser).
  • The card preview on the right is blank / missing media compared with your friend’s.

So at this point it’s not a linking/subscription problem; it’s one of:

  1. The card template isn’t pointing to the right fields.
  2. The note is using the wrong note type.
  3. The media files themselves are missing locally.

Let’s check each, in this order:

1. Verify the note type and card template

For the neuromyelitis optica note:

  1. In the Browser, select that note.
  2. Look at the top right: what does it say for Note type?
    • It should be something like AnKing / AnKing v12 (AnKing Overhaul) or similar, not a generic or custom note type.
  3. With that note selected, click Cards… (right side of the Browser).

In the Card Template window:

  • On the Front Template and Back Template, make sure you see the usual AnKing templates (a lot of HTML with fields like {{Text}}, {{Extra}}, etc.).
  • If you instead see something very minimal or obviously custom, your templates may have been modified.

If you’re unsure, please post a screenshot of:

  • The Note type shown in the Browser for that note.
  • The Cards… → Front Template window.

2. Make sure the note is on the correct AnKing note type

Sometimes people accidentally changed the note type for a subset of cards.

With the NMO note selected in the Browser:

  1. Go to Notes → Change Note Type…
  2. In the dialog:
    • Current: shows what it is now.
    • New note type: choose the standard AnKing note type that the rest of your AnKing Step Deck is using (compare with another AnKing card that looks normal).
  3. Leave field mapping on the default suggestions and click OK.

After that, preview the card again. If it now looks normal, the issue was that this note (or group of notes) was on the wrong note type.

3. Check that media is actually present

Still with the NMO note selected:

  1. Click the small paperclip / media icon in the preview area (or press Ctrl+Shift+X / Cmd+Shift+X to open Check Media from the main window).
  2. Run Tools → Check Media:
    • If it reports Missing files with names like neuromyelitis_optica_*.png etc., then the images truly aren’t in your collection.
    • After resetting local changes and syncing with AnkiHub, you should have all non–third‑party media. If you’re still missing standard AnKing images, that’s something we should flag.

If Check Media reports no missing files, then the problem is almost certainly the card template / note type, not the deck link.

What I’d like from you next

To avoid more back‑and‑forth guesswork, could you please post:

  1. In the Browser, with the NMO note selected:
    • A screenshot showing:
      • The Note type at top right.
      • The Fields list (right side).
  2. The Cards… → Front Template window for that note type.
  3. The output of Tools → Check Media (at least the “Missing files” section, if any).

With those three pieces, we can see:

  • Whether the note is on the right AnKing note type.
  • Whether the template is intact.
  • Whether the images are genuinely missing from your media folder.

From there we’ll know if you just need to fix the note type/template locally, or if we should escalate as a possible AnkiHub/AnKing content issue.

thats because i just went down the version because of the ai bot it is 25.09.2, my friends have the newer images like the cmv picture, i went through some of the recent updates im missing everything from them.

Can you please click on this tag and tell me how many cards it shows on the left-top corner of your screen?

mine is 31000

is your anking step deck updated to the new one, because im confused why mine would have more than yours unless in new uodates they made it less?

That is the correct number of cards for the AnKing Step Deck, so you have all of them.

Please reset local changes again: How to Reset Local Changes

If you still think you are missing any cards, you can search the cloud version of the deck here: Sign In

If you find any cards on the website that are not in your Anki, please let us know so we can investigate further.

A quick tip: You can copy the ID of the card from the website and search for it in Anki using this format (without spaces):

nid:ID
e.g. nid:1742336659803

Regarding the screenshot, you do not have more cards than me. In Anki, there is a difference between notes and cards, and each note can represent more than one card. You can see that my screenshot says “Notes,” and yours says “Cards.” If I switch my view to “Cards,” the numbers are the same.

i just checked and i havent received any of the image updates since number 14, not sure how to check which cards are new in the updates, if you can please give me an example of a new card added recently i can check it out
