Complete your profile to continue

When opening Anki, a pop-up page reading ā€œcomplete your profile to continueā€ shows up. Even though I file correctly the requested fields, I am unable to click ā€œconfirm and closeā€, thereby forcing me to close the pop-up page without being able to sync with AnkiHub.
This issue has been ongoing since January 2025, how can I resolve it?

It would be useful if I could show a screenshot of what I’m talking about.

Hello,

See if you can’t give the following a shot:

  • Close Anki.
  • Restart Anki while pressing the Shift key (this will load Anki in Safe Mode).
  • Go to your top menu bar: Anki - About Anki and check your version number. If it’s anything but 25.02, you’ll want to update (https://apps.ankiweb.net/)
  • Once you’ve updated, close Anki then load again in Safe Mode. From there, go to your top menu bar: Tools - Add-ons - Check for Updates. Update all of your add-ons.
  • Restart Anki normally

From there you should be able to fill out the form and hopefully be all set.

Give those things a shot and let me know how you fare, and we can go from there.

I’ll help you troubleshoot this issue with the ā€œComplete your profile to continueā€ popup in AnkiHub. Let me search for relevant information.

I understand you’re having an issue with AnkiHub requiring you to complete your profile but not letting you confirm and close the dialog. This is frustrating, especially since it’s been ongoing since January 2025. Let me help you resolve this.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check your add-on installation

First, try reinstalling the AnkiHub add-on:

  • Close Anki completely
  • Open Anki while holding down the Shift key (to disable add-ons temporarily)
  • Go to Tools → Add-ons → Delete the AnkiHub add-on (1322529746)
  • Download the latest version from this direct link
  • Restart Anki normally

2. Reset your AnkiHub authentication

If reinstalling doesn’t work:

  • Visit the password reset page
  • Reset your password for your AnkiHub account
  • Try logging in again through the add-on

3. Check username format

Make sure your username doesn’t contain special characters (especially the ā€œ@ā€ symbol), as this can cause authentication issues.

4. Verify your Anki version

You’re using Anki 24.04.1, which is the currently recommended version for AnkiHub. This shouldn’t be causing your issue.

5. Profile conflict

Since the error message mentions ā€œAnkiQt object has no attribute ā€˜_reviewer_refresh_timerā€™ā€, there might be a conflict with your Anki profile. Try creating a new Anki profile (File → Switch Profile → Add) and see if you can complete the AnkiHub setup there.

If none of these steps resolve your issue, please contact the AnkiHub support team directly at support@ankihub.net with your error details and they can provide personalized assistance.

Thanks for your prompt reply Brian.
I specifically avoided updating Anki due to the change in ā€œtab behaviorā€ in the newest versions. I am currently using the ⁨24.04.1 version.
Is there a way to bypas this popup window and keep using AnkiHub? Otherwise I may have to consider terminating my subscription :frowning:

Thank you in advance

Yeah, Anki updates are always a mixed bag.

A couple of things that I’ll share, just for due diligence:

Because of the way that add-ons work, including AnkiHub, as they continue to be updated it is inevitable that, if you’re on an older version of Anki, they will inevitably fall into a discrepancy. In addition to this is operating-system support, which will also eventually age out.

Essentially, if you stay on 24.11 forever it will be inevitable that you’ll run into some add-on and/or support issues eventually that will likely require updating. That is obviously not going to happen today or tomorrow, but just giving you a heads up for down the road.

A couple of things we can try first:

  • Try logging into Ankihub.net, then clicking ā€˜Settings’ at the top of your screen. From here, see if you can fill in the ā€˜Study Preferences’ portion from the website there.
  • Once you’ve done that, try restarting Anki in Safe Mode and ensuring that your add-ons are up to date.
  • Once you’ve done both of those, restart Anki as normal

I’m not 100% certain that will resolve the issue, but we can certainly give it a shot and go from there.

It worked!! Thank you for your kind assistance Brian

This is a known issue in the Qt5 build. Note that we probably have to drop Qt5 support soon as support has been dropped by Anki (no Qt5 builds are available for recent Anki versions).
