As I go through Anki cards, I repeatedly look to the first aid images on the card. It seems often times to be overwhelming to have the entire page of first aid pop-up, but if just the person disease popped up in the first aid image that would make more sense and would be easier to read. It would be more true to the anki ideology and we would be able to reference first aid more.
This seems like a small change that would make a large impact on the effectiveness of Anki and the easiness on the eyes.
Would be glad to hear thoughts on how we could get this implemented.
I understand your concern about First Aid images showing the entire page rather than just the relevant portion. This can indeed be overwhelming and less efficient for focused learning.
Currently, the AnKing Step Deck treats First Aid content differently than other resources. According to the documentation:
First Aid - We do not have plans to share images in this field, but we will not edit the html code in these fields for now. Unless you have these images already from some other source, we recommend you protect this field.
There are a few options you might consider:
Edit the images yourself: You can edit any First Aid images you have access to, cropping them to show only the relevant portion, and then replace them in your cards. Since AnkiHub doesnโt edit these fields, your modifications should remain intact.
Suggest this as a feature: You could create a feature request in the AnkiHub community or directly contact the AnKing team with this suggestion. Your point about this being more aligned with Ankiโs philosophy of focused learning is valid.
Use the AnKing Overhaul note type: The AnKing Overhaul note type and its add-on offer many customization options. While it may not specifically address image cropping, it might provide alternative ways to improve your studying experience.
When studying, remember you can use keyboard shortcuts like Space or Enter to show the answer, and 1-4 keys to rate your cards, which can help make your review process more efficient.
Would you like me to provide more information about how to edit images in Anki or how to submit a feature request to the AnKing team?
If you are referring to the First Aid field in the card (not the sidebar on the right), we donโt put any images there due to copyright. To access the First-Aid or Boards and Beyond content you will need a separate subscription to that resource. You can learn more about how this integration works here: McGraw Hill Integration FAQ
You may have these images from somewhere else and not from the official AnKing Step Deck from AnkiHub.
If your suggestion is about the sidebar on the right, please let us know so we can make it better. Thank you for your feedback!
