Duplicate cards submitted to AnkiHub (same note IDs) when forgot to sync with AnkiHub on new computer

Hello there,

I think I have discovered an interesting bug (or maybe this is an intentional feature but itā€™s been causing me a bit of a headache as of late). I made some cards on my desktop PC to my shared ā€œMalleus Clinical Medicineā€ deck, with the following Anki IDs a few days ago:

  • 1696239633166
  • 1696239865560
  • 1696240103335
  • 1696240350016
  • 1696240580536

I then opened up Anki on my laptop computer this morning and made some batch edits to some of the cards under the shared tag they were under by adding some additional images to the ā€œAdditional Resourcesā€ field. Without thinking to sync with AnkiHub first (I disabled the automatic AnkiHub syncing with Anki) I selected them all and selected ā€œBulk Suggest Notesā€ and an error message popped up, but it seemed to go through. It now looks like itā€™s submitted duplicate notes under those Anki ID cards which were not synced to AnkiHub on my laptop but were synced on my desktop where I originally made the cards (this can be seen on the AnkiHub deck in question Deck details (ankihub.net). The only difference that I can see on AnkiHubā€™s web version is while there are 2 of the same note, one of them is the old version without the images in the ā€œAdditional Resourcesā€ field, while the 2nd card has the images I added in the ā€œAdditional Resourcesā€ field. For example:

I suspect this may only occur if you disable the automatic syncing with AnkiHub when Anki syncs, which is what I have done as I have had some other annoying issues pop up when using two different devices and I needed to keep clicking ā€œCheck databaseā€ to get rid of duplicate cards which kept appearing. But this is the first time itā€™s actually submitted cards with the same Anki ID to AnkiHub.

Iā€™m wondering in the interim until the AnkiHub deletion feature is implemented if an admin could delete the extra duplicated note ID cards (the old version without the added images in the ā€œAdditional Resourcesā€ field) on the AnkiHub backend, that would be great! And if this could be looked into as a possible bug that would be great (Iā€™m sorry I didnā€™t get to write down or screenshot the AnkiHub error message that appeared though).

Kind regards,

Stapedius

@ProductTeam

First time seeing this but I think there should be a way for AnkiHub to detect duplicate IDs and reject them without actually pushing them to prevent this from happening?

Hello! I just thought Iā€™d follow up on this to see if the duplicate noteIDs (as listed) can be removed from the AnkiHub to prevent future possible syncing conflicts?

Kind regards,

@jakub.f would you be able to do this?

Done! The duplicate notes (with empty Additional Resources fields were deleted.

Legend! Thanks so much!

Sorry just one more thing! I hate to be annoying and I know you have much more important things to do but another 2 cards slipped through as duplicates again! If you have a spare second to delete the ones I marked ā€œDELETEā€ on AnkiHub that would be fantastic ( Deck details (ankihub.net)ā€¦ itā€™s just causing a few nightmares on the syncing side of things as any change updates to the Anki side and overwrites the other updated note on AnkiHub. The note IDs:

1697090265001
1697090565146

Thanks again for all your help - it is greatly appreciated. AnkiHub has been a fantastic tool so far! I promise you I will not bother you again on this matter.

Done! Feel free to inform us in situations like this, it just might take some time for us to react, unfortunately.
