How to add personal notes to the Anking cards without disturbing AnkiHub sync

Update: I am so sorry to bombard you with messages, but I was able to successfully sync to ankiweb and now all of these changes appear on all of my devices (computer, ipad, iphone). Now the only thing missing is protecting my new field of “additional questions” as “lecture notes” is already protected for me. I do not see the option to protect “additional questions” when I go to “manage protected field” in my ankihub.

Nothing will get suggested unless you click suggest a change so you don’t have to worry about other people seeing them. Only maintainers can accept / reject suggestions so even if you were to accidentally suggest a change it wouldn’t go through

Correct, but the lecture notes field is protected by default so you can add things there and they will never disappear

2a. How do I add a new field to all of ankicards? The purpose of this: There is a lot of information on the anking cards but usually only one question is asked. I would like to add more questions to prompt me to think about the other information on the card, however, I do not want to add it to “text” field and have it disappear, so I would like to add another field and protect it to have these additional questions.

You cannot currently add a field as it will mess up the ankihub sync, if you want to do this for certain cards, you can make that change you want then protect that card specifically.

I do this sometimes when I keep getting a card wrong, so I would add a hint or move things around, but protect that individual card so it doesn’t get overwritten

I will be adding images and graphics to the “lecture notes” field but would like these images to automatically show when I hit “Show answer” instead of me having to click the “lecture notes” field to view the images. How can I do this?

Okay thank you, I think I will just add any extra prompts or notes I have to lecture notes and use “additional resources” to add graphics and make it auto-open. But now I have a couple of more questions.

1. Can I change the order of the fields without messing with the ankihub sync?

2. It appears there is a disconnect now with the syncing after I added the new “additional questions” field. How can I sync/edit so my anki goes back to how it was before I added the extra field BUT not lose my progress on cards I’ve reviewed?

Yes, you can do this through the anking note types addon. For example, I made my lecture notes go above extra and made it auto-open. Syncing works fine

You will have to edit your note type and delete the field. The easiest way is to restore from a backup but this will unfortunately erase the progress you’ve done since the last backup
